Still in love with the P2 Wordpress theme, but someone should fix these little nasty bugs. The link button on the front page does not work same holds true for the AJAX based autorefresh.
I mean, i would fix it for myself, but i do not have the time nor i’m able to grasp the entire code and to come up with a solution. Like in Matrix, why is it not possible to flash the brainware. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could learn a (programming) language with a simple click on a button?!

Yes i can! Dosreis.de revamped
Welcome to dosreis.de Version Xy. I really don’t know how often i have redesigned the site but it seems to be that i am somehow have an obsession for redesigning this site at least once a year. Good to know, that if i would not be working as a consultant I’m at least be able to work as webdesigner.
Last week i installed Xampp on a USB stick, copied all files incl. the database from my hosting account to the stick. I am now be able to work offline on my site when i am on the move. I played a little bit around with the design on the flight back to Munich on Friday and decided to spend some time at the weekend to work on the site. I sat down yesterday for about 6 yours and started to work on the site. All major changes are done already. A little bit of fine tuning here and there in the next couple of weeks.I changed the overall blog layout a little bit. I moved the sidebar from the bottom of the page to right side and added some new widgets. I also changed the color palette and disabled some plugins that wasted a lot of resources. I hope you like the redesign. I would be happy if you leave me a message as a comment or in the sidebar.

Google Docs Offline Version
Google just released a offline version of Google Docs. It’s always impressive to see how fast Google is releasing updates and new applications.
I have upgraded this Blog over the weekend to the final Wordpress 2.5 release. As far as i can see, everything is working fine. I’m very happy that all plugins and my customized theme are working without any glitches.
As promised, i added a new section called “Worth reading” below my Flickr the photo stream. In this section I link to interesting articles that i have discovered on the internet. The technical solution is quite simple, but very intriguing. I’m using the “share this item” feature of the Google Reader. This feature allows you to to share articles with your friends and the public. I simply embedded the RSS feed of the shared page here. Whenever i discover a interesting story on the web i will share it with you.
Btw. I stopped receiving spam by 100% (comments & trackbacks). How? Perhaps a few of you already have discovered it on the comments page, i have installed a captcha plugin. Frankly speaking, i was just tiered of comment spam.

Design Refresh – dosreis.de
Die einzige Konstante ist die Veränderung. Ich bin zur Zeit dabei ein wenig am Design herumzuspielen. Der virtuelle Tapetenwechsel war angebracht, denn irgendwie war ich mit dem alten Design nicht mehr so richtig zufrieden. Allerdings sind die Änderungen eher minimaler Natur, da ich am grundlegenden Layout (Navigation Bar, rechte Sidebar, 2-spaltig) eigentlich nichts ändern möchte. Durch die Aktualisierung auf Wordpress 2.3 müssen auch noch einige Plugins aktualisiert werden, so funktioniert zum Bsp. das Archiv noch nicht richtig. Weiterhin habe ich kurzerhand gleich mal ein paar Plugins eliminiert. Ich hoffe meines kleines Design Refresh mag zu gefallen.

News: Updated auf Wordpress 2.2 / Dubai Weekend / Aktivitäten
Da es viel zu tun gibt, bin ich nicht dazu gekommen was zu schreiben in den letzten Tagen. Neben der Projektarbeit bin ich derzeit dabei einen Artikel für unsere Management Magazin DMR zuschreiben und mein Jahresurlaub will auch organisiert werden.
Um ein wenig “normale” Luft zu schnuppern, fliege ich heute Abend wieder für das Wochenende nach Dubai. Ich wäre natürlich viel lieber nach Hamburg gereist um mit allen Freunden die traditionelle Alsterrunde zu begehen, nur leider habe ich dafür zu wenig Zeit.
Nebenbei habe ich eben noch einmal in aller Kürze diesen Blog auf Wordpress 2.2 upgedated. Ich hoffe dabei ist nichts schiefgegangen und der Blog funktioniert weiterhin einwandfrei.
Den Schnupfen bin ich Gott Sei Dank (“el Hamdallah”) so schnell wieder losgeworden wie er gekommen ist. Daher freu ich mich auf ein super Wochenende in Dubai!

Drupal Experiment
Ich habe meinen Blog in letzter Zeit funktional nicht erweitert. Das hängt damit zusammen, das ich nebenbei immer mit ein paar neuen Ideen experimentiere. Bislang habe ich für alle Web-Experimente eine lokale Xampp Installation und Wordpress genutzt. Ich bilde mir mittlerweile ein, das Konzept und die Architektur von Wordpress einigermaßen verstanden zu haben. Somit bin ich relativ schnell in der Lage die Komplexität der technischen Umsetzung einer Idee beurteilen zu können. Die Stärken von Wordpress liegen in der Vielzahl an verfügbaren Plugins, dem leicht verständlichen Template System, der guten Dokumentation und der großen & hilfsbereiten Community. Für die Realisierung von Blogs ist Wordpress aus meiner Sicht auf jeden Fall immer die erste Wahl.
Wordpress stößt für mich jedoch an seine Grenzen, wenn es um den Aufbau komplexerer Webprojekte geht. Dinge wie User-Rollen Management, Zugangskontrolle, Taxonomy Modul-übergreifend, Einbindung von Foren, etc. Viele dieser Dinge lassen sich auch in Wordpress implementieren, jedoch muss man dann wirklich selber programmieren. Mit den zur Verfügung stehenden Boardmitteln lässt sich sowas dann nicht mehr so einfach realisieren.
Ich habe mich nach langem hin und her dafür entschieden Drupal eine Chance zu geben. In der engeren Wahl stand noch Joomla. Beide CMS sind Modulartig aufgebaut und erfreuen sich einer großen Beliebtheit. Einen richtigen ausschlaggebenden Grund gab es nicht, sich für das Eine oder Andere System zu entscheiden. Verfolgt man die Diskussion ein wenig genauer, dann läuft es zusammenfassend wohl darauf hinaus:
- Drupal: Sauber programmiert; Komplexer für Einsteiger; Sehr gut erweiterbar und anpassbar
- Joomla: Flachere Lernkurve; Große Community; Limitierungen was sehr komplexe Projekte anbelangt
Das ist zumindestens das, was ich auch den Zwischenzeilen herauslesen konnte. Ich bin ja auch kein Experte für Software Architektur Fragen.
Interessanterweise sei noch erwähnt, das IBM mehrere Open-Source CMS Systeme evaluiert hat um sich dann für Drupal zu entscheiden.Kurzum. Ich habe bei Hosteurope einen Linux VServer gemietet und werde in nächster Zeit auf selbigem meine lokale Drupal Installation migrieren. Mal schauen wie schnell ich vorankomme.

Redesign finished – mission accomplished
I’m so happy! As announced i switched from K2 to the Sandbox theme. The site now runs at blazing speed and the design is exactly what i was looking for.
I started on Tuesday evening and now the main part is finished. I had to edit some core template files inserting some additional php code snippets (statistics counter, pagebar, etc.). I heavily edited the CSS and fine tuned all the stuff. I spend two night sessions but i mean in the end the effort was worth it. I hope you like the redesign as well.

Don’t be afraid. I have everything under control. I’m just playing a little around with the latest SVN version of the K2 Theme for Wordpress. Altough K2 is already one of the best available themes for WP it is just getting better and better. The latest version already support wordpress widgets. That’s absolutely awesome. You can now easily edit the content of the sidebar by easy drag & drop and extend the sidebar via plugins. A huge step forwards in terms of usability and simplicity. I have to create a new style sheet scheme and my litte relaunch is ready.
Btw. My Iran ISP is blocking flickr!
But that’s not the reason why you won’t see any pictures under ‘Photos’. -

It’s done – Wordpress 2.0 Upgrade
Yes! I’m a little bit proud of myself and the crew behind wordpress. They’ve done an awesome work in the last couple of months. Wordpress 2.0 is working fine straight out of the box. No problems, no glitches, no downtime.
The new WYSIWYG Editor is nice and very comfortable but a little bit slow. I hope they will give it a performance boost in the future.Just playing around with the new editor interface

Ausbau der Site – Bereich Culture
Ich habe mir einmal ein wenig Zeit genommen um mich etwas intensiver mit dem Amazon Media Manager Plugin für Wordpress zu beschäftigen. Das hat natürlich mal wieder etwas mehr Zeit als erwartet in Anspruch genommen, weil ich mich mit den Parametern und dem Aufbau der Templates vertraut machen musste und am Ende sogar auch ein wenig in die Tiefen CSS/HTML eingetaucht bin, aber ich denke der Zeitaufwand hat sich gelohnt. Unter dem Bereich Culture finden sich nun aktuelle Empfehlungen aus dem Bereich Musik, Literatur und Videospiele. Eventuell werde ich noch die Video Rubrik hinzufügen.

Hi, I really like the look and feel of your site. Can you tell me how you got the fancy archives page to show up, and additionally, how you got the small arrows to display on it?
